What’s the best place to work in America? The answer is Salesforce, and that’s not just a pipe dream. Salesforce was ranked number one in 2018 in Fortune’s One Hundred Best Companies to Work For. 

This San Francisco, California based company is a software giant that offers cloud based computing to its customers. Most of its profits come from CRM, or customer relationship management services.  There is a whole line of Salesforce applications that are part of this company’s offerings, including marketing automation, application development, customer service, and analytics. With each passing year, the company offers further extensions of its services in order to meet the changing needs of its customers. 

Dot Com Hero

During the explosion of the dot com era, Oracle executives Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, Marc Benioff, and Frank Dominguez created Salesforce to offer specialty software as a service, or SaaS. The team wrote the software specifically to serve needs that they did not see being met by other companies out there. 

It’s important to note that one of the core company values was always to provide not only excellent products to meet the needs of companies, but also to be a model of what corporate culture should and could look like. 

Just five years after its launch, Salesforce with public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2004. It raised over one hundred million dollars during its IPO.

Trademark Woes

In 2012, the company attempted to trademark the term social enterprise in the EU, Jamaica, and the United States. The point was to capture the nature of businesses that were primary social. A campaign online called #notinourname went out against the company via another company, Social Enterprise UK. Salesforce ended up pulling out their bid for trademark application. Not only that, they also agreed to discontinue their marketing use of the term permanently.
